How I got into chess...
It was 12th may 2020, when my father forced me to watch the game between the Indian star vishy anand, and the world champion magnus carlsen. Let me be honest with you, till then, I HATED CHESS. But it was that day when i realized something that made me want to learn the game and I became curious about it.As I said before, I hated chess and had no knowledge about the game (Except the fact I knew where the pieces moved). Even though I wasn't very keen and enthusiastic towards the game, my father made sure I learn the game professionally. But the thing is, he didn't want me to learn the game because he liked it. He wanted me to learn it because chess teaches you life skills and strategies. The game helps you understand how to plan how path to trap the king. You need strategies, tactics and patience. So, my father adored the game for that.
But when I used to play with my sister everyday, since i was seven years old, I used to think of any excuse to lure away from the game. I kept losing to her, and didn't understand anything except the way the pieces moved respectively. But, I then had a friend of mine, who was so smart, had an excellent memory and was sharp and strategic in everything he did. And this was all because, he spent a LOT of time on chess. I was in awe looking at this and was inspired to go deep. I still wasn't completely interested in the game, but this was a starting point.
So, after this experience, I go home at start looking for better ways to beat my sister as a start. And with just a bit of dedication and interest, I was able to beat her, my dad, and my mom for the first time. This was a huge victory for me and now I wanted to go in depth and learn this game. But I needed the final touch, so I would not be so hesitant.
I had gone to nasik, to my grandparent and cousins house. My whole family is VERY good at chess, especially my grandfather. So one day, my grandfather, my sister, my mom and my cousin brother ganged up and played against me while I had no one on my team. But I take up the challenge, and I knew, this is my chance to prove myself. And I did. Luck was with me that day. Because of my great achievement that day, my aunt got me a 12x12 chess board! (It was a very big deal at the time).
So i went on with my journey into chess. I joined an academy, and started playing more online, due to the lockdown. I joined Chabbra Chess academy and I was actually becoming pretty good at chess! I improved my chess by playing classical chess, and was very happy with my improvement. I kept practicing with puzzles, playing games, and with the help of the coach Himanshu Chabbra, my family and my friends!
The things I learnt from chess were:
How to plan and strategize.
How to sit and one place for long and gain patience.
Improving my mental strength.
