Shankland started the tournament with 4/4 and in the next 2 rounds he draw vs grandmasters so in the seventh round against a IM and with white was time to bit again.

R7. Destroying the Taimanov

In the next game he beat Fernando Peralta with the black pieces playing a king's indian so winnig one more game he could have the tournament in his hands

R9. Blitzing all the game

Perfect game to have 8/9 and practically secure the tournament. Im really impress not only for the level but for the speed in all the games putting so much pressure in the clock too.
He draw the penultimate game and for the last one he just needed a draw but with the black pieces he outplayed in a positional style his opponent facing the maroczy ring.
My coach who was traning the guatemala natioanl team in mexico send me a photo with the winner.
Great tournament of Shankland with 9.5/11 qualifiying to the world cup and gaining some rating.
