ChessOver the boardTournamentStrategyAnalysis
Last week in peru i was playing the rapid and blitz u20 world championship.

Arrive to Peru

10 days ago i flew to peru to play the world championship of rapid and blitz under 20, this was suppose to be my last under age tournament so i’m so excitement and focus to won the tournament , in the rapid section i have better option than in blitz because i simply play better with more time in the control.
The tournament take place in the 5stars sheraton hotel in front of the justice palace. In the first day i simply sleep because i was so tired thanks to the jet lag.
In the second day i review some openings to prepare the tournament and i made many tactics easy exercises to warm up and i simply still adapting to the new time table
And the third day was finally when the first tournament start, in the morning taked place the opening ceremony and there i met 2 spanish player that i now before and i make new peru friends.

23th of september the tournament start, 6 years since i played my last world championship.
In this category i start the 9 of the ranking and hopes to try to win the tournament

Day1

We play 9 rounds 3 in each day
In the first round a won but only thanks to a blunder of my opponent in the last moment because i start so well the game but i start y made many mistakes reaching a position with 2 rooks and a pawns vs 2 rooks and 2 pawns but the bad positions of his king help me to won with a dirty tactic
In the second round i won my best game of the tournament with a positional pawn sacrifice versus the colle sistem, i going yo give us the full game

Facing a Genius

And after the 2 initial victories i was paired against Gm Denis Lazavick in the board 1 , Denis is well know to be a rapid specialist.
The opening goes well but when i need to decide a plan in the middlegame i chase the incorrect, some moves later i manage to be into the game again but a so passive scary move gave me the deserve 0

Day 2

The first day was not great but i still having good options and was so important to start well today.
In the fourth round i faced again the french defense with Nf6 but this time i decide to played Bg5 instead of e5 to change and avoid preps. I reach a incredible position from the opening, i could have lost the advantage thanks to not king castle but by opponent didn’t break on c5 and after i fixed his pawn on c6 i reach a great position, then i lost a central pawns reaching a losing position how i finally manage to won thanks to the timetroubles of my opponent.
Round 5 and here in were i fucked my tournament , my opponent plays the alekhine and i had a +4 advantage after to opening but instead of play in the kingside and simply checkmate my opponent i incredible decide to open in the side of the board were my opponent had all his pieces and later i miss a tactic twice to finally loss a painful game
In The last round of the day i made a great fast prep in 5 minutes reaching a endgame with the bishop pair where i won a pawn easy and i convert without difficultys.

Day 3

Of course 4/6 was not the result that i wanted for the first 2 days but i still having good options if i won the last 3 round
The first game start so well with a kings indian with advantage in both sides , but again after a good prep and a good start of the middlegame i chose the incorrects plans to lost all the advantage and then losing a equal endgame , this lost suppose the end of my options but of course i had the best actitude to fight in the last 2 round
The 8 game goes equal in a doble kings pawn but in one moment i manage to create a good attack against his king but some inaccuracies make me reach a equal endgame who like in the previous round i manage to lost against a worst player than me, endgames use to me be strong point but ok in this tournament i simply play bad i should still improve of course
The last round doesn’t really matter i won a good game in the maroczy structure.

Rapid Results and conclusions

I’m finished with 5/9 points and in the 25th position losing 42 rapid rating.
Horrible tournament , the only thing that i made well was the openings and the preps and in some game the first part of the middlegame but i fail so much in the moment of chose the correct plan and in the endgames, in the time troubles in didn’t play well but that’s not new for me.
The critical point of the tournament was the 5 round where i lost a completely winning alekhine and the first round of the last day.image.jpeg

Rest day

For the rest day i decide to completely rest of chess and i didn’t review any openings or play chess or táctics, simply rest of chess

In the morning i went with some friends to play football, i really love football so i enjoy so much this morning and in the evening take place another blitz tournament how i didn’t play but i stayed there watching my friends games and talking with new people and making new contacts and friends.
I tried to visit the city i little bit and find a Valentina Shevshenko T-Shirt or something but finally i only walk like 1h around my hotel and i bought a T-shirt of The Bloodline

Blitz WCC u20

The Blitz tournaments was only in 2 days but 13 rounds, 7 the first day and 6 the second, more round is fairly in my opinion because you have time to come back if you lose some games.

In the first round of the blitz i decide to change and play 1.d4 how is so safe for blitz in my opinion and i won easy.

Closest draw ever vs Gm

In the second round i face the future winner of the Tournament
the GM Madaminov and after a equal game more less all the time in the final position i just need to play Rg8 and it’s a draw; i lost on time but because i can’t manage to find this move and all the move that a see lost , incredible lose.

The next 2 rounds i beat 2 peru players one again with 1.d4 and the other with black.

Blundering a rook in 9 moves

For the moment i was playing pretty decent in the blitz but in the round five i faced the elephant opening and i simply blunder a rook in the 9move, nothing more to say about that game.

In the sixth round my opponent made a huge positional mistake in the opening and and won and in the last blitz of the first day i was playing well in a moscow but 2 bad move in a row made me lost the game

Last day

We went into the last day, of course that all of the previous i played so bad but if i won the last 6 blitz games can be a good result in general.
But the idea of won the last 6 round fails fast when after outplayed my opponent in a exchange spanish i blunder a rook in the time troubles
In the next 2 rounds again i beat a peru player with 1.d4 and my friend of costarica Darrel in a fighting semieslav.

But again in my try to come back i face a im of bolivia and in a french defense first i forget the theory and then i made some positional and tactics mistake to lost easy
The twelve round something funny happens because i made a ilegal move but my opponent claims after made his move how is no a legal claim of course and i won the game

And in the last round i played vs a colombia friend and i made many things bad, first i forgot the breyer opening lines, then i had a winning exchange sacrifice and i didn’t made and after i open my king how use to be a bad decision without time in the clock.
My best blitz game:

So i end the blitz with 7/13 points a horrible results again so i simply need to still training and improving.

General Experience

Of course i’m not happy with my play in the tournament specially in rapid where i use to play good and earn good money in this tournament but i have many games to learn of that and the mistakes that i made
I made many new friends in the tournament of diferents continents how it’s great, i love to know people of diferents cultures and specially chess players.
So i play bad so so bad but i enjoy so much the tournament and hole experience.
