Schlechter - Janowski, Paris, 1900

ChessChess PersonalitiesAnalysis
The Other Lasker's Notes

The Exposition Universelle Chess Tournament in Paris would be last of the international chess tournaments held at world's fairs. The top four finishers were awarded prestigious Sèvres vases in the Grand Cercle. In round seven Carl Schlechter and David Janowski played the Ruy Lopez.

A member of the Viennese chess school, Carl Schlechter's elegant play allowed him to win several international tournaments and draw a World Chess Championship match; he would, however, die of pneumonia and starvation during WWI. The ingenious, but reckless, tactician David Janowski had good results against the strongest players of his time.

Edward Lasker annotated the game in 1915.
