I’ve been playing on Lichess for many years, and I truly believe it’s the best platform on the internet. I admire Lichess for its commitment to open-source principles, community-building, and its fantastic user experience. Alongside chess, I also love another strategy game called Quoridor, a less widespread but equally rewarding strategy board game. As a non-professional developer, I decided to embark on the journey of building an online community for Quoridor that shares the same values as Lichess—free, open, and welcoming to all.

PlayQuoridor is a free, open-source, and ad-free real-time Quoridor server, powered by a passionate community of volunteers. We want to mirror Lichess' values, offering a platform with no distractions and no fees, where everyone can enjoy the game equally.

What is Quoridor?

Quoridor is a simple yet deeply strategic board game where players aim to be the first to reach the opposite side of the board. The twist? You can block your opponent's path with walls, adding a layer of tactical depth to the game.

Here’s how it works:

• Setup: Each player starts on opposite sides of a 9x9 grid. Players take turns moving their piece (pawn) or placing walls.
• Movement: On each turn, players can move their pawn one space in any direction (horizontally and vertically) unless blocked by a wall.
• Walls: Each player has a limited number of walls. Walls are placed between squares, blocking movement, and can be used strategically to slow down opponents.
• Objective: The goal is simple—be the first to reach the opposite side of the board.
