Gambits for U2000 players, part 3

ChessAnalysisOpening
Budapest gambit, where some lines are perfect for fun tactics and checkmate

Dear U2000 chess players, greetings, another blog post for you.

In the previous blog posts, part 1 and part 2, I wanted to keep things simple and therefore the choice was easy because the b4 gambit against the Scandinavian defense is not very difficult to grasp. There's basically almost no lines you need to remember, and the ideas are pretty clear. After that, during days I have been hesitating about writing about the Budapest gambit because white has several good choices and there is actually a lot to know and understand about this gambit. However, most opponents will likely decline the gambit or choose a popular but not a super good line, the Adler variation with 4.Nf3. And besides that your U2000 opponent may be very surprised about the rare Budapest gambit or has forgotten about the best lines. In this post I'll focus on the mentioned Adler variation only. In future blog posts more about the other lines.

Let's dive into it. First the basics that you really need to know. Then a few example games.

The Basics :

Here is a spectacular example of an OTB game with the Budapest gambit with a GM (white) versus an IM (black). Black has sacrificed their queen, and now sacrifices a bishop, and delivers checkmate.

A fresh example of a game I played. My opponent started pretty well, but then after a few mistakes allowed a sacrifice and checkmate.

Rook lift. I am sharing these example games with only brief comments to give you an idea what is possible. Remember, don't just copy cat as these games are not flawless. Do double-check some moves and feel free to experiment. Have fun! :
