I'll show 3 interesting games where the black bishop was demoralized by a brilliant pony sacrifice

Introduction

I decided to write this blog inspired by the work of IM justiniano565, who analyzes random chess, particularly "Non human openings," and his recent blog about "How difficult for Black are Fischer Random starting positions?", and I'd also like to contribute.

In this blog, I'll show interesting ideas demonstrated by Stockfish18 against lichess bots (Stockfish level 7-8) in "best positions" from random chess.

"Best positions"

What do I mean by "best positions"?

These are positions that the engine evaluates above the average evaluation of positions filtered by class (more precisely, the classes are divided based on bishop placement).

Essentially, these are more imbalanced positions than "best positions", where White has a much greater advantage depending on specific variations (or better piece placement).

List of "best positions"

Let's continue. After analyzing all 960 positions, I got the following set:

Fortunately, in positions with bishops_in_same_corner, bishops_in_corners, and bishops_on_classical_squares, White's maximum advantage is +0.4/0.5

Main part

In this first episode, I'll show 3 interesting games where the black bishop was demoralized by a brilliant pony sacrifice, the white knight bravely attacked the enemy king alone, and the black bishop was stuck on the queenside.

position No268 (where bishops_on_night_squares)

https://lichess.org/study/VF2opXWH/rhIUHIea#0

In this position, we simply open our bishops with c4 and f4.

https://lichess.org/study/VF2opXWH/rhIUHIea#6

Stockfish copies, but we immediately attack with Na5!?

https://lichess.org/study/VF2opXWH/rhIUHIea#8

He tries to immediately occupy the center, but we attack the knight - c5!

https://lichess.org/study/VF2opXWH/rhIUHIea#11

After Nc4 we don't trade, but sacrifice the knight Nc6!! Fantastic

https://lichess.org/study/VF2opXWH/rhIUHIea#15

After the capture, we easily develop and rotate our pieces to the queenside.
Both bishops are stuck on their pawns, and Na5 is stuck on the edge of the board. Easy win

Next, position No316 (where bishops_on_night_squares)

https://lichess.org/study/VF2opXWH/Ti2YAyi3#0

Again open our bishops with c4 and f4.

https://lichess.org/study/VF2opXWH/Ti2YAyi3#4

And we lead the knight to weakness on g7

https://lichess.org/study/VF2opXWH/Ti2YAyi3#8

After a single move g6 our knight lands well on h6

It's not advantageous for the bishop to move to f7, since the knight will remain in the corner of the board, and we'll still play f5.
And if Nf7, we'll take the bishop, depriving him of castling.

https://lichess.org/study/VF2opXWH/Ti2YAyi3#11

Therefore Be6, but f5.

https://lichess.org/study/VF2opXWH/Ti2YAyi3#15

After gxf5 Nxf5(threatening Ng7 fork) Bxf5 Bxf5, kingside is ruined and pawn on h7 will die very soon. All that remains is to realize the advantage

If he tries to trap the bishop (e6, f5), he won't have time: 9...f5 10. d3 Rf7 11. Qg5/Qh6 and 12. Bg6

position No147 (bishops_in_corners)

https://lichess.org/study/VF2opXWH/64RBZfsV#0

We need to open our bishops otherwise they will be pinched, so b3

https://lichess.org/study/VF2opXWH/64RBZfsV#5

Next, we develop the knight and occupy the center d4 (despite the fact that we are covering the bishop)

https://lichess.org/study/VF2opXWH/64RBZfsV#7

He attacks, we defend

https://lichess.org/study/VF2opXWH/64RBZfsV#8

And here is a strange moment, he allows the fork, probably calculating, to exchange minor pieces and save his bishop, after 5. d5 Bxa1 6. dxe6 d5 (otherwise we would have gone exd7 fork) 7. Qxd5 Bg7 and this is not so bad for Black.

https://lichess.org/study/VF2opXWH/64RBZfsV#11

However, we can simply trap the bishop and one of the knights will be captured

https://lichess.org/study/VF2opXWH/64RBZfsV#21

After a couple of moves, we have an extra piece. I'll be exploring this motif further in future blogs.

Finally, you can check out the analysis of Hikaru's game against Magnus, where the same motif was used.
