GM Arjun Kalyan

I am Arjun Kalyan from Chennai, India (23 y/o). I am one of the coaches of the Indian national team which recently won double gold at the Chess Olympiad. I have worked with a few top players, notably for Praggnanandhaa at the Candidates 2024. I became an IM in the year 2018 and a GM in the year 2021. My current Fide Elo is 2509 and my peak Elo is 2537. I have played chess semi-professionally over 12 years and won many events worldwide.

I was part of the gold medal-winning Indian Women's team at the Chess Olympiad 2024 and the bronze medal-winning Indian Open team at the Chess Olympiad 2022 in Chennai, as an assistant coach. I was also one of the team's coaches for the Asian Games 2022 in China where we won silver. I have worked with a few top players, notably for Praggnanandhaa at the Candidates 2024. I have several students ranging from titled players to around 1500 Elo.

I have a lot of good material on different aspects of the game from my experience as a competitive player. I am known to be a very well-prepared player and I am excited to share my opening ideas to interested students!

In the first couple of sessions, I explain my thinking process in different positions. We will go through some positions where I assess how you think in different parts of the game. I will go through your games and we can decide on which areas to work more on. I will also give you some homework to work on your own. I believe the whole process works only if you put in the effort on your own too.
