About me

Hi chess friends :)

I am Sterling a 23 year old chess player from Australia.

If you are a beginner - intermediate level player (U1800 FIDE) looking for someone to help you improve your game then I'm your guy!

I offer both chess lessons and training games with optional analysis afterwards.

If this sounds good to you send me a message here on lichess and let's get to work :)

Playing experience

I have played in tournaments since I was 12, some of my notable tournament performances include:

2019 Australian Junior Chess Champion
2022 NSW State Champion
Gold Coast Open 2023 =3rd
Achieved FM in 2023
Oceania Zonal 2025 =2nd
Gold Coast Open 2025 =2nd

Teaching experience

I have been coaching since 2020 and worked with players of many ages and levels over the years, focusing on beginner - intermediate levels (U1800 FIDE).

Many of my students have seen improvements of a few hundred points both online and OTB after a few weeks to months of serious work.

Other experiences

I am currently a student at The University of New South Wales (UNSW) studying Computer Science.

Best skills

I am fairly well-rounded with intuition, calculation and tactics. I can help a player build a solid foundation that can help take you to the next level.

Teaching methodology

Lessons are tailored to the students needs and preferences.

Also available for training games with optional analysis afterwards.

Usually we will analyse your games to identify your weaknesses and strengths as a chess player. Lessons also include analysing master games or solving different kinds of puzzles to improve ones overall playing strength.

Lessons are done through Microsoft Teams/Zoom/Discord
