I'm a 27 year old living in Denver, Colorado. After learning the game as a kid, I played my first rated tournament at 16. A fun fact is that I went from 1500 USCF to 2000 in under a year. I finally achieved my lifetime goal of National Master in 2024.
I've been playing US chess tournaments for the past 11 years. I've also played rated tournaments in Spain, Mexico and Argentina. Recently I won the Colorado Closed Championship and the Colorado Open.
Teaching experience
I'm currently a coach with Chessmates. I have two years coaching experience, both scholastic players and adults. I've coached many students in the 800-1400 range, and have good understanding of how to move up through those rating levels.
Teaching methodology
The first lesson will usually be an analysis of your games. From there we'll: -Identify strengths and weaknesses -Develop a structured plan for improvement -Recommend the best books/courses/training methods
Lessons will include a range of instructional material including:
-Continued analysis of your games -Developing a mental checklist for practical games (checks/captures/threats) -Opening lessons with examples from historical games (with an emphasis on how theory evolved throughout history) -Positional exercises (understanding how to find a plan) -Tactics and endgame studies to improve calculation -Study of grandmaster games to highlight examples of specific themes -Training games with me, starting from a specific position from your games. This way you can improve on your own play.
Online lessons are conducted over Zoom and Lichess Studies.
