About me

FREE 30-MINUTE INTRODUCTORY CALL

Hello! My name is Emmanuel Jiménez, International Master from Costa Rica and chess coach.

I’ve spent over a decade competing internationally and helping students improve their chess through clear thinking, structured practice, and personalized analysis. I don’t teach shortcuts or memorized lines, I teach how to think at the board.
I work with kids, adults, and competitive players, from beginners to advanced level.

Playing experience

International Master (IM), Costa Rica
Peak FIDE rating: 2437
3-time National Champion of Costa Rica (2021, 2023, 2024)
First-ranked player in Costa Rica
International tournament champion (Americas & U.S.)
Extensive experience against titled players and grandmasters

My playing style is based on logic, decision-making, and understanding positions, not memorizing long variations.

Teaching experience

I’ve been teaching chess for 7+ years, both online and in person.
My students consistently improve because we focus on:
Understanding their own mistakes
Recognizing patterns
Building strong thinking habits
Developing independence as players
Many students see rating progress simply by applying this structured approach consistently.

Other experiences

Beyond coaching, I’ve collaborated with LearningChess.net and the FIDE Chess in Education Commission, translating and adapting official chess education materials into Spanish.
I also create educational videos on my YouTube channel, focused on practical improvement and thought process.
