About me

Hi, I'm Gabriele, a 22 years old Italian International Master (rated 2431, january 2026).

I've always loved playing chess competitively. Throughout my adolescence, I dreamed of finding my way to work in the world of chess. During my university years (I graduated in November 2025), I started coaching almost by chance, simply because people asked me to. I would have never believed I would enjoy teaching so much.

Today, I coach more than 10 students. I never actively sought them out, it just happened, and I am thrilled with how my teaching journey is unfolding.

I will soon obtain the highest coaching title in Italy. Now that I have finished university, one of my biggest goals for 2026 is to develop into a world-class trainer.

Playing experience

I learned the game at 8 but started competing more seriously at 12. Surprisingly, I earned the FM title when I was 15, which remains one of the best memories of my career. The following year (2019), I became the U16 and U20 Italian Champion. In 2022, I won the U20 national title again.

In 2023 and 2025, I had the opportunity to play for the Italian national team in the Mitropa Cup. Out of 14 games, I remained unbeaten, an achievement I consider one of my best.

In 2025, my club team also won the Italian Team Championship.

I have competed four times in World Youth Championships: U20 in 2017 (Tarvisio, Italy), 2022 (Pula, Italy), and 2023 (Mexico City, Mexico); and U16 in 2019 (Mumbai, India).

I officially became an IM in April 2025, though I had already achieved my first two norms and a 2400 rating in 2022. The final norm was delayed mainly due to formalities. To this day, I remain a very active player.

Teaching experience

My coaching experience has taught me that my approach must differ not only according to a student's strength but also their personal circumstances. Every individual is unique, and the ability to adapt is essential to achieve the best results together.

Best skills

I believe the distinction between 'positional players' and 'attacking players' is now outdated. To achieve great results, a player must be strong in all aspects of the game.

That being said my own strongest assets are my positional understanding and intuition. I have always been passionate about opening preparation and enjoy surprising my opponents with new ideas.

Strangely enough, in recent years, I haven't spent enough time learning systematically from my own mistakes, something that has undoubtedly slowed my progress.
