IM Angel Gabriel Cordoba Roa

(ENG) My name is Angel Cordoba. I'm an International Master (IM). I'm nineteen-years-young. I have been playing chess since I was ten years of age and I started taking chess more seriously at the age of fourteen when my rating was 1900. Since then I have gained +490 rating points, obtained the FM title in 2021, and became an IM in 2025. I've accumulated a lot of experience and learnings along the way, those of which I look forward to conveying to my students in a successful manner.

(ESP) Mi nombre es Angel Cordoba. Soy Maestro Internacional (MI). Tengo diecinueve años, juego ajedrez desde los diez y empecé a tomarme el ajedrez en serio a los catorce cuando tenía 1900 de elo. Desde entonces he ganado más de 490 puntos de elo, obtuve el título de MF en 2021, y me convertí en IM en 2025. He acumulado muchas experiencias y aprendizajes en el proceso las cuales me gustaría transmitir a mis alumnos de una manera exitosa.

(ENG) I started competing in tournaments at the age of eleven years. It was a process of four years with a lot of uprises and failures, and a pandemic along the way until I eventually became a FIDE Master (FM) at the age of fifteen years. I am currently International Master (IM) which I obtained at the age of 18. In my experience I have trained and studied a lot, with the purpose of enhancing my play in order to see how far I can get. My current FIDE classical rating is 2394 as of May 2025.

(ESP) Empecé a competir en torneos a los once años. Fue un proceso de cuatro años con muchos altibajos y una pandemia de por medio hasta que eventualmente me hice Maestro FIDE (MF) a los quince años. Actualmente soy Maestro Internacional (MI). He entrenando y jugado mucho, con el propósito de mejorar mi juego para ver qué tan lejos puedo llegar. Mi elo FIDE clásico actual es 2394 para mayo de 2025.

(ENG) I have been working in my chess improvement since I was fourteen, and I have also worked with many high level players such as coaches and colleagues. These experiences have sharpened the way I view, train, teach and play the game of chess. All these things I want to share with my students henceforward. I have 1 year of experience as a chess coach, obtaining notable results and progress in my students

(ESP) He trabajado en mi proceso de mejorar en el ajedrez desde que tenía catorce años, y he trabajado con muchas personas como entrenadores y compañeros. Estas experiencias han afinado la forma en la que veo, entreno, enseño y juego el ajedrez. Todas estas cosas me gustaría compartirlas con mis alumnos. Tengo un año de experiencia como entrenador con resultados decentes en el camino.

(ENG) I'm currently a student of International Business degree at a notably good university in Colombia

(ESP) Actualmente soy estudiante de Negocios Internacionales

(ENG) I find in myself particular strengths such as the transition opening-middle game, my ability to obtain iniciative through tactics, in addition to that, a concise game analysis from a technical standpoint and outplaying the opponents using technical resources and methods. I also enjoy a lot teaching endgames despite not being too good at it for a master like myself.

(ESP) Mis fortalezas están en la apertura y su transición al medio juego, capacidad para obtener la iniciativa por medio de temas tácticos-estratégicos así como el buen análisis de una partida desde el punto de vista técnico. También me gusta enseñar finales.

(ENG) There's no such thing as a universal educational method. Although, I believe there's a direct correlation between a student's discipline and a coach's ability to demand it from the sudent in order to acquire success in this game. I focus a lot on the particular and specific weaknessess of my student with the intention of making him more skillful in these areas. I'm both honest and challenging as a coach, furthermore I can adapt myself to my student's weaknesses and strengths.

(ESP) No concibo la idea de que exista una metodología universal. Creo que existe una correlación entre un entrenador exigente y un alumno disciplinado para lograr el éxito en este ámbito. Suelo enfocarme en las debilidades y trabajar para reforzarlas de tal forma de potenciar las habilidades del jugador. Soy honesto y exigente con mis alumnos así como me adapto a trabajar alrededor de sus debilidades y fortalezas.
