About me

Hi! I'm Dion Krivenko, a FIDE Master from Estonia with years of tournament and coaching experience. I've represented my country at World and European Championships, and now I work with students of all ages and levels - from beginners to ambitious competitors.

I'm a sharp, tactical player, and I focus on helping my students improve their calculation, dynamic play, and opening preparation. Whether you want to better understand complex positions, build a solid opening repertoire, or become more confident in your attacking play - Iโ€™m here to help you grow.

Playing experience

My greatest achievements are winning the Rhodes Easter Cup and the Andorra (blitz), two strong international tournaments with competitive fields.

One of my recent notable results is sharing 1st place at the Evgeny Sveshnikov Memorial 2025 - chess-results.com/tnr1017623.aspx?lan=1&art=1&rd=9&flag=30

Others include:
โ€“ Four-time Estonian U18 Champion (classical & rapid)
โ€“ Represented Estonia at multiple European and World Youth Championships, as well as the European Chess Championship
โ€“ Participant of international tournaments across Spain, France, Italy, Belgium, Andorra, the Nordic countries, Gibraltar, Panama, the United States, and many others - gaining valuable experience against a wide variety of playing styles and opponents

I have over 8 years of chess experience. During this time, Iโ€™ve developed a sharp and practical style, with strong emphasis on tactics and dynamic play. I am currently a member of SK Rockaden (Sweden) and Pรผhajรคrve Mk (Estonia).

Teaching experience

I have been coaching chess for over 3 years.
Among my students are national champions of Estonia, Finland, Latvia, and Lithuania in various age categories.

Iโ€™ve worked with players from a wide range of countries - including the Baltic states, the Nordic region, Europe, and China - helping them grow both strategically and psychologically through personalized training.

Other experiences

Outside of chess, Iโ€™m passionate about programming and game development, and I enjoy active sports as a way to stay balanced, focused, and mentally sharp.

Best skills

โ€“ Building a fighting spirit โ€“ helping students stay focused, play until the very end, and never give up at the board
โ€“ Motivating and engaging coaching style, especially effective with juniors
โ€“ Strong tactical vision and accurate calculation training
โ€“ Emphasis on practical decision-making under time pressure
โ€“ Opening preparation tailored to individual playing styles
โ€“ Clear and simple explanation of complex strategic ideas

Teaching methodology

My training is based on a mix of personal tournament experience and carefully selected material from trusted sources. I adapt my methodology individually for each student, depending on their goals, level, and playing style - this is discussed and shaped from the very first lesson.

As an active player, I stay up to date with modern opening theory, practical trends, and current ideas from top-level chess.
I'm always in close contact with my students, actively following their tournament games and helping them prepare for upcoming competitions with targeted support and analysis.
