I am International Master Adarsh Tripathi, a full-time chess professional from India, dedicated to teaching chess players worldwide. I currently coach and through Silver Knights Chess Academy, one of the USA’s leading junior chess programs.
As a child, I often found chess lessons overwhelming or monotonous because they did not channel my energy and curiosity into focused yet enjoyable learning. That early struggle shaped my mission today: to make chess both fun and deeply instructive for kids.
During COVID, I began teaching at Magnus Chess Academy, and since then, I have had the privilege of working with many bright young minds across the globe. My teaching combines enthusiasm, structure, and personalized attention because to teach kids, you must think like one.
In my lessons, both coach and student keep their cameras on. I ask continuous questions, from simple to challenging, to maintain engagement. When kids stay consistent, curious, and motivated, improvement is inevitable.
I am deeply passionate about my students’ growth and often follow up with parents over WhatsApp to discuss tournaments, motivation, and study plans. I treat your child’s progress as my own, because it truly is.

This year alone, my students have:
— Represented their countries at the World Cadets Chess Championship
— Won 7+ medals at the US SuperNationals
— A student tied for first place in their age group at the US Junior Open
— Earned over 12 medals at various State Championships across the US
— One 11-year-old student from Oregon improved from 1217 USCF to 1629 USCF in just 7 months, and there are many more such stories.

Teaching experience
My approach includes providing homework, guiding on how to self-study, helping overcome rating barriers, and building mental resilience. I believe in straightforward, honest coaching: no empty promises or unrealistic expectations. But more importantly, I encourage you to take a lesson and see if we’re a good fit. I teach via Zoom, using Lichess’s Interactive Chess Board. If you’re not familiar with these tools, don’t worry - they’re as user-friendly as Reddit and much more reliable!
- I have worked with students from ages 5 to 80, from beginners to advanced players.
- I have helped students achieve their goals, such as winning tournaments, improving their ratings, and qualifying for national teams.
- I have a proven track record of success, with my students consistently improving their chess skills.
- I have a proven technique of teaching, which includes asking questions and ensuring the lesson is interactive.
- I have helped people improve in chess with the limitations and restrictions of their schedule;
- My teaching philosophy has a lot of rules, and personal opinions, but the #1 rule is that every chess player, and person is different. Everyone has a different style, logic, strengths/weaknesses, limitations and it is extremely important that I do not simply copy paste lessons, but rather work with the student to provide an independent solution.

Other experiences
I have authored several articles and developed curriculum to help students improve their chess skills. My most recent work is a Chessable course, World Class: Ding Liren, which received critical acclaim. I am excited to announce that Chessable and I will be collaborating on a new strategy course in the future (more details to come!)
Best skills
I tailor my chess teaching to fit each student's needs, considering their age and the time they have for chess. I believe learning from mistakes is key, so I guide students to figure out errors on their own, helping them remember and understand better.
My teaching adapts to different ages: with kids, I mix fun with learning to keep them engaged, while with adults, I focus on delivering clear, impactful lessons to ensure they get the most out of their time and investment in learning chess. But, that's just a general impression, at the end, I uniquely tailor it to the student.

Teaching methodology
My coaching philosophy is simple: there’s no one-size-fits-all method to learning chess. Together, we’ll find what works best for you, considering your unique strengths and limitations. My coaching methodology is focused on building a strong foundation in the basic principles of chess, including opening strategy, endgame technique, and tactics. I also believe in creating a positive and supportive learning environment for all of my students.

I will also provide customized guidance and feedback to help you overcome any weaknesses or areas of improvement. Whether you need help preparing high-quality opening strategies using the latest cloud-engines, or simply require a more self-explanatory opening repertoire that leads to middle-game positions that you can understand, I am well-equipped to help you succeed at any level.
My approach to coaching is highly personalized, and I take pride in adapting my teaching style to the unique needs and learning styles of each individual student. Together, we'll work to build your skills and confidence, and help you achieve your goals on and off the chessboard.
