About me

My name is Petar Benkovic and I was born on the 8th of May 1980 in Sremska Mitrovica, Serbia. I am an International Master with over 25 years of experience like a Chess Player. I am also a FIDE Trainer, National Chess Arbiter, and the founder of the Benko Chess Club (www.benkochess.com).

Playing experience

As a junior, I won the Championships of Vojvodina in the U15, U16, U18 categories, and twice in the U20 category. I became the Champion of SR Yugoslavia in U18 and twice in U20, competing in Junior European and World Championships, as well as the Children's Chess Olympiad.

One of my notable achievements was securing 8th place at the World Youth Championship 1998, Oropesa del Mar, Spain. tinyurl.com/2ktajm3w

I have won numerous international open and closed tournaments and have successfully represented clubs from Serbia, Bosnia, Montenegro, Switzerland and Germany.

Teaching experience

I have over 25 years of experience as a chess coach, providing both individual and group training. I have worked as a trainer in Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Switzerland, Germany, Turkey, and China. I have extensive experience conducting online chess lessons via Skype, Teams, VooV and Zoom Meeting platforms.

Other experiences

I have experience in organizing chess tournaments for children and working with the pairing program Swiss Manager.

Best skills

My strongest chess skills are strategy of middlegames, calculations and endgames.

Favorite First Move: 1. Nf3

For White, I can teach you 1.d4 systems, the English Opening, and the Reti Opening. I am also comfortable teaching 1.e4 systems, although I have less tournament experience with them.

As Black, I can teach you Queen's Gambit Declined, Nimzo-Indian Defense, Bogo-Indian Defense, Catalan, Open Games, Sicilian Defense, French Defense, Scandinavian Defense, ect.

Teaching methodology

My lessons are via Communication platforms and I use the ChessBase program or lichess server during the training, and after the class I send homework to my students.

I also offer training games with analysis, which is a great way to develop your chess skills.
