CM Shrayan Majumder

I am a 23 year old chess professional based in Mumbai, India. The game of chess has been my main hobby throughout my teenage years and sharing my love for chess has been my pursuit in the last couple of years.

I also hold a BSc degree based in sports management. In general I am highly interested in strategic thinking, psychology and risk assessment in sports and similar fields.

I am a very active chess player and enjoy travelling all around India and many parts of the world to play all sorts of tournaments.

Some of my achievements include:
Winner of Tata Steel Open chess Festival, Kolkata, 2023
Second place in Qatar Masters Challengers, Doha. 2023
Tied for second in KIIT Internstional GM Open, Bhubaneswar, 2025

I have played against several strong titled players across the world over the board, a memorable victory is against GM Alexei Fedorov (peak fide 2684).

I have been teaching in a limited capacity for the last 4 years, It has been very satisfying to work with enthusiastic and committed students across levels and help them progress in their chess journey.

I have also worked as a training and analysis partner for several strong and ambitious titled players helping in opening preparation, psychology and refinement of their style of play.

- Most important element of training will always be to develop powerful calculation skill as it is in my opinion it forms the core of a players chess strength.

- I have innovative methods in helping students improve their positional play based on understanding, intuition and harmony.

- I have several well researched opening files to offer to students based on their style and preferences.

- Expert in sports psychology which i believe is a very underrated aspect of chess strength

- Its vital that every lesson is enjoyable as well as productive and the student will always be looking forward to the next class!

I belive every chess player irrespective of their level is unique. My coaching method aims at first forming a good and thorough understanding with the student, and together we can create an assessment of the current level, preferences and the targets for the future.

My approach is totally adaptable and personalised to the student, I take a deep dive into the students chess career and games and after the first few classes will develop a special plan for the chess improvement of the student so they can fulfill their potential. It is important for me that the training approach I use for a student is enjoyable and enriching for them as well as being sufficiently challenging to push them to grow.

There is a lot of resources and material for several levels, my job is to be a guide and give the right tools so that the student is best equipped. Improvement in chess requires a lot of self work and I strive to ignite the curiosity and passion for chess to motivate students to work in the right direction.

I am thoroughly prepared with interesting chess content in every lesson. For students with long term commitment which I prefer I am also available as a full time mentor, always available to answer queries and guiding them through their chess journey.
