I don't like flairs as a concept of sticking them right next to your name (it looks to me as though we're moving closer to a chess.com style with the flairs, but it's not really my point), I have very much preferred the regular flag. Is there any reason for the removal?

Moreover, I've just noticed I can't have any flag visible on my profile when I hover over it, I assume it's a bug? Only the name of the flag appears in the pop-up. I also don't think it has to do with the flair setting turned off, since I tried to get a flag with both types of settings, and neither worked.

And now I respect your opinion. We should have an option to turn off either the flairs or the flags (but not both at the same time), but the setting doesn't seem to work as I said in #5.

FYI, flags people used didn't always correspond to people's locations and neither indicated their nationality. So essentially, they were just like flairs.

I know of the setting, and disabled it, thanks. The flairs aren't a problem at all.

Is the nationality important though? It's not like we're officially representing a country here. I thought it's more of a choice, when you have the flag of your country you can have it either for national pride or just for its good look. That was the case with the rainbow flag - I just enjoyed its outline (not a representation of my sexuality, either).

Edit: I missed your point to some extent, but the above is still relevant. In my opinion, flairs are too tacky for Lichess (and I do personally think you could do better than just place emoji next to the name) and the rectangular shape of the flag fits the website better, which is why I personally won't switch to a rainbow flair.
