As a kid I always slept near a window, or maybe under it since I was quite young in my years. I always kept the curtains closed.
Why? Because I sometimes have nightmares of a figure behind my curtains, staring down on me.
I barely remember anything, aside from that the shadowy figure had an elongated neck which swayed left and right. (This nightmare occurred one or three times)
I cannot, not to this day fathom why it was scary. Maybe it was the feeling of being powerless, upon having no control over what I dream. Little me never slept near windows again, or always facing away from the window when I slept.
And I sometimes lie awake at night which ruins my sleep schedule, causing my chess OTB rating to go down.
But it's stopped, as people grow out of their childhood fears.
