Facing the World's Best: How I Drew Against Magnus Carlsen

When you played this game he was 20. Were you trying to draw or at any point before the game were you looking to play for the win? Awesome story :D

Very pleasant to read about a chess game as a story, not just deep variations. Thank you.

Thanks, everyone! Comments and views really mean a lot to me.

If I said I wasn’t nervous, I’d be lying. Firstly, he had defeated me in a previous game when he was much younger, which left a negative mark on my mental strength. Secondly, at that moment, he was already seen as the uncrowned king. Even though this motivated me to give my best, I’d also be lying if I said I wasn’t intimidated to some extent. Luckily, I was able to get through it. Thirdly, this was a team event, which always adds a dose of importance.

However, I wasn’t thinking about a draw—I just wanted to play good moves. I don’t think playing for a draw is a good strategy in general.
