It's less elegant and less efficient, but would the Petrosian idea work in the Short game? Get the king out of the way of the mate threat (like to e2), then play Ng5 and take on f7 with knight or rook?
a truly amazing blog, amazing how a king could change the entire gameplay in the middle game
Fun fact: Kings are worth about 4 points of material in the endgame; kings are a game changer lol.
