Gambling Companies are Targeting the Chess World

Good exposé !

I would like more light shed on how sponsorship, marketing and advertising affect the chess world.

I am appalled to see the difference between chess content creators in terms of financial and promotional support, for example. I see new people coming online and being disappointed that they don't immediately make money on YouTube or Twitch, because they see these others who inexplicably rise in popularity and make it look easy.

And then you see the difference in behaviour, when they panic in live events if they inadvertently promoted something related to Lichess for example. Or how they seem to all start to talk about the same irrelevant thing at the same time.

Bottom line, we need more well researched blog posts like this.

Great research, and detailed blog on exposing the "dark side" of popular faces, we only see this type of blogs on Lichess, where bloggers are more interested in finding out the truth than following the monopoly. Chess.com always controlled chess creators from the ground up, the big ones you mentioned, but I also know a couple of people (won't say names) who are involved in (not gambling) but the influence of Chess.com. Great read, thanks for the blog!

Great article! Never thought that I'd cease to be a fan of Carlsen, Nakamura or Levy, but legalizing private gambling is sick. Promoting gambling is sick.

Also, Carlsen's "understanding" of "democracy" is appalling. He needs to understand that he's the GOAT of Chess, not the king of Chess.

That's very true.

Honestly, they should ban being able to gamble on websites where kids can watch, especially if they're trying to promote gambling.

Anyone against that?

We gotta get Carlsen, Hikaru and Levy to read this.

That was an informative read, thank you.
Gambling is fine, as long as nobody is forced to gamble!
Everyone makes his/her own decisions in life.

Thank you for highlighting this. Will have to pay attention to the ICE conference in a few weeks... I cannot figure out for the life of me what it's about. The press release left me confused.
