What a sad day. Rest in peace Danya, you were the smartest, most eloquent and kindest soul in the chess community. You will be deeply missed.

Great write up. It's going to take a while before the chess world feels normal again.

What was the cause of death? The family is not very proud if they're hiding it.

Danya lived in Charlotte, whereas his family lives in California. Until the autopsy result with its associated toxicological report is shared with them, they're as much in the dark as you and me...Speculating on the cause of death is not something that concerns me, and I would prefer that my readers treat the grieving family with respect in such difficult times, not like paparazzi or hound dogs.

This is such an unspeakable tragedy. Danya was by far the most sympathetic and honest chess personality alive. He leaves us with a gold mine of instructional/educational videos.
He didn't deserve all the all the negativity that likely resulted in his passing. I hope that this may be a wake up call for those of us still alive: appreciate kindness and good honest people.
He will be dearly missed.
