I don't remember a big tournament recently with so little Ruy Lopez, the Italian game is also lower, but what strikes me is that we had more Petrov than Sicilian. It seems that strong structures are preferred, also Sidarov showed among others that the Queen's Gambit Declined has many answers

"so little Ruy Lopez, the Italian game is also lower"
- They played more Queen's Gambit. There was almost more English Opening than 1 e4.
"more Petrov than Sicilian"
- Petrov evades Ruy Lopez, Italian, and Scotch. Wei Yi even evaded Petrov playing Vienna.
Sindarov evaded Petrov going to the Four Knights.
