@g6firste6second

I would like to thank you for your comment first and foremost. Engagement will make everyone involved better if it is constructive and accurate.

I understand the perspective about the Englund Gambit being unsound with concrete analysis showing refutation. However, none of this analysis was necessary to know for the game to have proceeded as it did. The line I had played was not from a book nor was it the critical continuation. There are unfortunately many likes like this where the better side simply fails to appreciate the nuances of the position.

I do think there are enough positions to reach in mainline openings that one does not need to play such lines. I don't have plans on posting any opening related posts though, as much work has already been done in books and online course that my contribution would be merely redundant. Best to you and your chess goings this holiday season.

Nice but I didn't understand anything

Thank you for you comment. I would like further clarification on what you had not understood as it could imply several things. For example, the material is not explained well enough to reach a broad audience (which I find rather unfortunate) or the specific examples provided don't clarify the subject topic well enough. I will disclose that the primary auidence is roughly 1400-1600, but how accurate I am at capturing this is uncertain.

Even though I find it rather enjoyable to put these together (as it requires me to review my own games), they are first and foremost for those that would like an alternative to playing chess. I know scanning through recent games is better than nothing when we are having a bad day over the board. If you wouldn't mind expanding on this comment, I can use the feedback to help improve future blogs.

So understanding these nuances, I assume they are similar to evaluating imbalances in a position? Or is it more calculation based, calculating to the end? (still in process of learning imbalances btw to make moves according to my responsibilites of what I recognize my imbalances in a position rather than I want to do, not very good progress at the moment.)

“ scanning through recent games is better than nothing when we are having a bad day over the board.” implies a good day over the board would be edifying and victorious. Excellent. Is that right?

@asdf1997

I would lean towards categorizing nuances as calculation based.

The comparison of nuances and imbalances seems similar to the comparison between tactics and positional chess. Nuances are closer to the tactical nature of calculation while imbalances exist as an observational evaluation. The lines and subvariations are important in understanding nuances, but the imbalances can be captured and explained with a screenshot. Hopefully this makes some sense to the way I approach both.

@igmo_fitzpatzer

I would agree. Nothing could be more satisfying than successfully mulling through variation after variation for hours on end to achieve a particular goal (whether it is winning a game or understanding a concept).
