That's probably a correct take-- the resulting positions after 4. Bg5 are perhaps strategically better for White, but comparatively simple. 4. e5 is probably the better way to go (at least, that's the perception) at the top level. At the level of noobs like me, you can win games by nurturing a small positional advantage, but at the top level there's definitely the need for that "wow factor".
