Trusting The Process
Discover how 'trusting the process' can make your chess journey much more enjoyable and rewarding!Introduction
After travelling overseas to a seminar for the first time in 2019, I returned home with many great takeaways.
One of these was the concept of 'trusting the process'.
What does this mean?
The Opposite Of Trusting The Process
We'll get to that, but let's first see what the opposite looks like:
- Instant gratification (if we don't see some reward right away, we give up);
- Fixation on results (checking your online rating every day, beating yourself up after every loss, quitting a good session early to 'protect' your gains)
- Getting In Our Own Way (trying to force matters all the time because we 'must' win, rather than focusing on playing well and letting the chances come to us)
If any of those sound like you, let this post be a wake-up call that there's a much better way.
What Trusting The Process Means
Trusting the process means:
- Having confidence in our ability to figure things out;
- Accepting that improvement isn't a linear process and embracing the twists and turns of the journey;
- Focusing on improving our skills and play rather than our rating;
- Not comparing ourselves to others - we stay in our lane;
- Getting the help we need to improve so that we don't stay stuck and focus on what truly matters.
The Best Reason To Trust The Process
However, the best reason to trust the process is that you'll enjoy your journey of chess improvement far more if you do.
Please tell us in the thread what trusting the process looks like for you!
